dc comics backlog post: the taylor swift song my tears ricochet and jason todd

ok but like

im thinking of taylor swift's "my tears ricochet" in terms of jason todds death and his strained relationship with bruce wayne at the beginning of his time as the red hood??????

"And you're the hero flying around, saving face / And if I'm dead to you, why are you at the wake? / Cursing my name, wishing I stayed / Look at how my tears ricochet"

  • like!!!!! even when jason comes back, bruce has a hard time with it because this isnt the jason he remembers, this is a jason who went through the lazarus pit, who is a killer, who is so different and yet still so the same

  • and no matter how much they try, jason and bruce are inextricably linked, they just are. jason will always be the first robin bruce lost and bruce will always be the batman that failed to save jason

  • !!!! bruce used to be so proud of jason!!!! and now he disapproves of his methods but thats still his son he still cares

  • and their relationship is so strained, they take years to mend it, but in the beginning jason cant bring himself to go home, and bruce is kept up at night haunted by losing jason the first time

    • "You turned into your worst fears / And you're tossing out blame, drunk on this pain / Crossing out the good years"

  • and when bruce first lost jason, he went off the deep end! he got more violent and out of line with his villains! he never killed but he still crossed lines he never would! thats why tim drake stepped in - he realized batman needed a robin to real him in. but when jason comes back, bruce blocks out the good he does and focuses on the negative and criticizes him
